The aim of Finnish Association of Academic Researchers (Suomen akateemisten tutkijoiden yhdistys, or, SATY) is to improve the status of researchers and research in universities, research institutes and in society in general.
Among SATY’s membership, Academy of Finland Research Fellows, university researchers and those working at various research institutes are the largest groups. SATY negotiates with the Academy of Finland regarding the terms of employment of Academy Research Fellows.
SATY’s focus is primarily on the terms of employment and work environment of researchers who are externally funded (e.g. Academy of Finland projects; personal grants and scholarships). During the last two decades, research institutes outside of universities have also become increasingly significant in SATY’s activities.
SATY is a member organisation in the Finnish Union of University Researchers and Teachers (Tieteentekijöiden liitto), or, FUURT and SATY’s members are entitled to all the benefits of FUURT membership. FUURT belongs to the central organisation Akava. SATY members are also eligible for free legal advice in occupational and non-occupational matters.
An earnings-related unemployment benefit is important for researchers, many of whom work on temporary contracts. SATY’s members are insured in Opettajien työttömyyskassa, the Unemployment fund for teachers.
SATY also forms an interdisciplinary network of researchers. In SATY’s and FUURT’s meetings you will meet researchers and experts in different fields from around the country.
Join SATY by filling out the membership form. Your employer can deduct the membership fee from your salary, if you authorise them to do so by completing an authorisation form.
